CORI◊ Robotics-Assisted Joint Replacement
At Aspen Orthopedic Specialists, we are committed to helping you move with greater comfort and confidence through advanced joint replacement care. Orthopedic surgeons Ryan J. Kehoe, M.D., and Joseph P. Kelly, D.O., offer total and partial knee replacement using the CORI Surgical System, an advanced robotics-assisted technology designed to enhance precision while supporting a personalized surgical experience.
What Is the CORI Surgical System?
The CORI Surgical System is an advanced robotics-assisted platform that helps surgeons perform knee replacement with exceptional precision. Unlike many robotic-assisted systems that rely on preoperative CT scans or MRIs, the CORI system uses image-free technology to create a detailed, real-time 3D model of your knee during surgery.
This personalized model allows your surgeon to evaluate the unique anatomy, alignment, and movement of your knee before creating a customized surgical plan. By tailoring each procedure to the individual patient, the CORI system helps support accurate implant positioning and balanced joint function.

Is the CORI Surgical System Right for You?
Knee replacement with the CORI Surgical System may be an option if you:
- Experience chronic or severe knee pain
- Find everyday activities difficult because of knee discomfort
- Have damage affecting one or more areas of the knee joint
- Have not found lasting relief with nonsurgical treatments, such as medication, injections, activity modification, or physical therapy
- Have arthritis, including osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or post-traumatic arthritis
During your evaluation, your orthopedic surgeon will review your symptoms, discuss your activity goals, perform a thorough physical examination, and obtain imaging studies, such as X-rays or an MRI, when appropriate. Based on the extent and location of your joint damage, your surgeon will determine whether a partial or total knee replacement is the best treatment option.
What to Expect During Partial Knee Replacement
If only one portion of your knee has been affected by arthritis or injury, your surgeon may recommend a partial knee replacement. Before surgery, the CORI Surgical System creates a real-time 3D model of your knee, allowing your surgeon to develop a customized surgical plan based on your anatomy.
During the procedure, your surgeon uses the CORI handheld robotics-assisted instrument to precisely remove damaged bone and cartilage while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible. The technology provides real-time guidance throughout the procedure to support accurate implant placement and alignment.
After surgery, you will begin a personalized rehabilitation program designed to restore strength, flexibility, and mobility. Your surgeon will provide detailed recovery instructions and guide you through each stage of returning to your normal activities.
What to Expect During Total Knee Replacement
For patients with more advanced arthritis affecting the entire knee, total knee replacement may provide the greatest benefit. Before surgery, the CORI Surgical System maps the anatomy of your knee and generates a personalized surgical plan tailored to your unique joint structure.
During the procedure, your surgeon uses the robotics-assisted technology to carefully remove damaged bone and cartilage, prepare the joint, and accurately position the knee replacement components. Throughout the surgery, the system provides real-time information that helps optimize implant alignment, stability, and joint balance before the procedure is completed.
Following surgery, your recovery plan will be customized to your individual needs and goals. Your surgeon and rehabilitation team will guide you through exercises and activity recommendations designed to help you safely regain motion, strength, and function as you return to an active lifestyle.
