The meeting in Colorado Springs will focus on current topics in orthopedics with discussion of new techniques in orthopedic surgery. In his presentation, Dr. Peterson will go over his research on specific techniques in surgical repair for youth patients with ACL injuries. Dr. Peterson’s paper, entitled “Central Quadriceps Free Tendon Autograft for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction in Pediatric and Adolescent Athletes: 2 year outcomes,” won first place for sports medicine research through the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics. Dr. Peterson will present his research at 10:05 a.m. on Oct. 24 at the annual meeting.

“It is an honor to be recognized for a research project that can contribute to help improve ACL reconstruction outcomes in young athletes,” says Dr. Peterson. “My goal as a sports medicine surgeon is to get young athletes back out onto the field or court with a stable knee. The quadriceps tendon graft provides the stability needed for athletes to return to their sports after ACL reconstruction.”

As a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, Dr. Peterson’s expertise includes an array of the latest surgical techniques and procedures to effectively treat acute and chronic injuries and conditions of the hip, knee and shoulder. After earning his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in East Lansing, Dr. Peterson completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Michigan. He later underwent advanced specialty training in orthopedic sports medicine through a fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital in Boston.
